show your mum the text. she should know what kind of person she married. clearly this is an over reaction especially since your mum neglected to see the cup when waking you and it was just water- its not like you spilled red wine and it will stain forever. besides that your step dad knocked it over not you. you shouldn't have to take the threat of violence from someone like your step dad. explain to your mum how it made you feel and how unreasonable it is but dont do it in an offensive way and dont try lay blame or they will get defensive.
